Did your father teach you the instrument?
Yeah, he showed me the basics when I was 7 or 8 years old I think, and I was already thinking I might want to become a proffessional drummer. Also, I studied with Chad Wackerman for a year, too. I've always been really passionate about the drums.
What was your first gig?
My 1st gig was a New Year's gig when I was 16. My Dad referred me for it. There was an accordian player and a trombone player and me! I started working steady when I was 21 when I could get into bars with cover bands.
What's it like playing with Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarek?
I've played with them for a year and a half and every time we play 'Riders On the Storm' or when Robby plays the solo in 'Light My Fire' I find it completely unreal. These are classic rock gems that we've all heard for years.
Were you a fan of the Doors music?
I was only familiar with a handful of songs I heard on the radio like 'Hello I Love You' and the hits, so I wasn't a die hard fan. When I got the gig with Robbie Krieger's band I learned dozens of Door's songs, a lot of songs I'd never heard before. I had never heard 'When The Music's Over' before I joined Robbie's band, and that's my favorite song to play now.
What's your opinion of John Densmore?
I think he's inventive and really complimented Jim Morrison's style and phrasing very well....a great drummer for The Doors.
